Costs of a German Trademark Renewal

end of protection = time limit for payment without surcharge	registered on or before January 13, 2019: last day of the month containing the 10^th, 20^th, 30^th, … anniversary of the date of filing (GTMA, § 159(1), § 47(6) registered on or after January 14, 2019: the 10^th, 20^th, 30^th, … anniversary of the date of filing (GTMA, § 47(1)-(3), (6), § 159(1))
earliest possible payment date	12 months before end of protection (GPCA, § 5(2): 6 months before the due date)
due date	6 months before end of protection
time limit for payment with surcharge	6 months of end of protection (GPCA, § 7(3))
surcharge	50 € office fee + 50 € attorney's fee

Representation

We do not charge an additional fee for taking over representation when renewing German trademarks.

There are two ways of taking over representation:

The preferred way is that you provide a PDF copy of an executed Power of Attorney (PoA) or have our PoA executed by your client. The advantage of this method is that the present representative does not need to cooperate.
Alternatively you may instruct your present representative to terminate his representation. Then we may take over without presenting a PoA.

It is the policy of our office to renew German trademarks only which we represent and not to advance office fees for new clients.
